Scarab 670 folding trimaran

This design is for intermediate builders. Some boat building experience would be helpful.

The 670 is the original Scarab, designed back in 1996 and is still popular today. Originally designed to use a second hand Hobie 18 rig, the drawings also show an alternative slightly larger sail plan. The centreboards are asymmetric and housed in the floats. The Scarab 670 was built using marine plywood and epoxy resin with aluminium ring frames at the beam supports. It is built in plywood using Stitch and Glue construction

This boat "Scarab" was built by Ray Kendrick using Gaboon plywood covered with glass and epoxy resin. The rig, sails and trailer was from a Hobie 18. The total cost in 1997 was $13,000 AUD with $4,000 of the total for the Hobie 18.
Accomodation options for this design are 2/3 single berths or 1 double + 2 singles with seating for 4
This boat has a large single bunk forward with single port and starboard bunks. These two bunks can be converted to a double at the step level.
The main hull has no fin case inside which allows for more useable space. The asymmetrical pivoting fins are in the floats reducing the stress of sailing in thin water.

Built by Kari in Finland now owned by Stephane in France.
