The Scarab 650 Sport is a brand new design incorporating many of the desirable features of the previous Scarabs and the new Scarab 18 being built at the present moment. The design is being documented for foam sandwich but plywood can also be used. A rotating rig will be used and a fixed extending prodder is being incorporated. The working sail area of 26 square metres (280 sq ft) combined with the lightweight of the boat will ensure lively performance. The pivoting centerboard is offset from the centreline and housed in the starboard settee riser and the rudder is also pivoting eliminating the stress of hitting bottom.

The Scarab 650 Sport has accommodation for four. A double berth up forward and two settee/quarter berths in the main area of the cabin. The quarter berths may also be utilized for stowage or galley equipment if required.For a crew of two the ideal setup will be to use the forward berth for stowage and sleep on the settees, a divided cushion on one side will facilitate a galley unit being slid out from under the cockpit seat. A portapotti can be stored under the cockpit.

	The Scarab 650 may be moved short distances with the outboard motor when folded. When folded, the Scarab 650 is a very compact unit, which is within the legal trailering width. The mast is supported by a post at the front of the trailer and a lightweight aluminium beam fitted to the aft beams. The boat may be used for accommodation when on the trailer.
