Cockpit seat risers are taped in and storage divider added. Cockpit seats attached. Cockpit taped. Holes for the
windows are cut.
Hatch is fabricated using moulded foam previously made with sides attached. Mainhull filled, sanded and
primed with 2 coats of high build primer and painted with 2 coats of 2 pot polyurethane. Glass beads are used to make a
non-skid surface.
Building the floats
The float frame is set up and levelled. Panels are attached as per the main-hull panels with screws. The float joints are filled, sanded and faired. The float is glassed the same way as the main-hull (double bias cloth over the bottom 3 panels). The floats are removed from the frame and taped inside. The floats are levelled and the bulkheads trimmed to fit. All the bulkhead are taped in the floats.
Floats are now ready for the deck to be added. If building a plywood boat the plywood can be joined and bent over the stringer.
When using foam the panels for the float deck are covered in place. The laminate is too stiff to bend in the required
curve. Scraps of foam are screwed to the side of the float and the foam bent over and attached using screws through the scrap
piece. The deck is laminated with glass cloth and resin. The deck can be removed when it is ready by taking the screws out
of the scrap piece of foam and lifting it off the float. Trim the edge and laminate glass cloth on the underside of deck.
Attach the deck with glue and hold down with temporary metal straps until dry. Sand the edges, fair and tape. Both floats are now filled
ready to paint.
